Scars Are Skin Deep, Memories Penatrate The Core, Freedom Is Not Free

This is a poem written by my husband that I wanted to share for Memorial Day. He wrote it Memorial Day 2008 with the intention of remembering those who gave their life in service for our freedom. Know those who serve our country past, present, and future...you are not forgotten:


Navy, Marine, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard:

I call you brothers, sisters, friends lost and found.
May you leave this earth to a place that knows no bounds.

Stopping to eat a bowl of 'Chili' with meat.
As I wait for someone to greet.

Will they show?
I may never know.

How many hours will I have to weep?
Nights in bed with little sleep.

How many gave their all?
For nothing at all.

Scars are merely skin deep.
Memories penetrate the core so deep.

They gave me medals while fighting for cause.
However, none of us do it for want of applause.

So long as there are those that are willing to pay.
Freedom for all is our only way in this grand country ..... USA.

We love this country more than our wife.
And will give it our all, even our life.

Remember those that serve this Memorial Day.
Life of freedom is the only way.

OUR AMERICA

On July 4, 1776, our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence. I have to wonder today, with the events that have been unfolding just days after we celebrated this anniversary, what they would think of our actions. I’m sure their hearts would break just as much as mine is right now. In light of those events, I’m going to just post the Declaration, in hopes that people will read it in its entirety. My prayer is that the words and intentions will catch, and people will think twice before they continue with the violence, tearing our country apart.
2 Chronicles 7:14: if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Declaration of Independence:
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.
He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness of his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.
We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

Warrior's Heart

Warrior’s Heart

Please forgive me for volunteering to go to Iraq.
I had no clue that I would almost break my back.
I did it because it was the right thing for our freedom and land.
My conscience tugged on me to go help those and offer a hand.
Was it the right thing to do for my career?
I had no clue it would leave a constant ringing in my ear.
I did not do it to be a hero to some of my friends.
Hopefully, they remember those that are now near the end.
The choice was made to defend our way of life.
Then why has the decision caused such strife?
They gave me medals to pin on my chest.
But I simply did it because I was trying my best.
Keep the fight away from my family and those I love.
Sometimes there are those that are taken from above.
We lost friends, brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers.
It was done for a cause nobler than another.
I saw the people that were smiling and give a thankful wave.
How many of them did we actually save?
We flew over them at such a great speed.
Simply trying to do another good deed.
There were those that were injured and covered in bright red.
Could we save them and keep them from the dead?
I see the images of their faces all covered in blood.
Is that why I feel like I am stuck in the mud?
I wonder why my heart aches when I see a mother cry.
Was it because her son was the one that had to die?
We live in this land of freedom taken for granted.
There are so many of them that simply chanted. 
I now shed so many tears trying to avoid the pain.
Please tell me GOD… was it all in vain?
However, if I could I would do it again. 
Despite the fact that it caused such a stain.


Perfect Mistakes

Perfect Mistakes

Mistakes. Some are the best thing that ever happened to us, some we would like to forget, but we all make them. The question is what to do with them? Do you quit and walk away, or do you learn from them and not make the same mistake twice? Do you have the strength and hope to push forward and get it done?
I’ll be taking a few inspirational words from Albert Einstein for this posting:
- “Anyone who has never made a mistake, has never tried anything new.”
Are you afraid to make a mistake? Are you nervous to mess up? Are you anxious, wondering if your dream is really achievable? That dream was given to you for a reason. Mistakes will happen. Things may even reach nuclear levels. The key is to keep whatever your motivation is in front of you. And, if that dream or goal magnifies and lifts the Kingdom in some way, you know God will give you the strength to get it done.
Galatians 6:9 tells us, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
There are days as an author that I want to give up. Inevitably, those are the days where I hear from a reader where the words and messages in one of the books encouraged them in some way. If God puts it on your heart, He will help you get it done.
- “Learn from yesterday, Live for today, and Hope for tomorrow.”
When we make mistakes we need to evaluate what went wrong and try it again, focusing on the goals and dreams you are working on achieving. Keep that dream in front of you. Look forward with the hope inside you, knowing you can get it done.
Proverbs 9:9 reminds us, “Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser. Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.”
Proverbs 1:5 says, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.”
If you’re not sure where you went wrong, check with a mentor or a colleague. They may have made the mistake already. There is a reason we study history. It’s to make sure history doesn’t get repeated.
As a youth leader, we mentor the teens in youth group. We sometimes share our stories so they can learn, and not have to learn the hard way. A wise person will learn from the mistake of others.
It’s in evaluating the mistakes we’ve made, that we learn and can perfect our goals and dreams. Have you learned from your mistake, or did you just give up and walk away? Don’t look at the mistake as a failure. Look at it as a way to start over more educated. To me, they are ‘perfect mistakes,’ because it’s by those mistakes that I will eventually achieve perfection. My prayer is that this may encourage you to pick it up if you walked away, or to keep going forward even if you made mistakes!

Reflection of Hope

They say that a “man can live about forty days without food, about three days without water, about eight minutes without air, but only for one second without hope.” Hope can be the difference between success and failure. You can withstand so much if you know you have people who support you and are looking out for you. You can face just about anything, as long as you don’t lose the hope that you can succeed. Even hope and faith as tiny as a mustard seed can produce mountainous amounts of blessings.
Now, does that mean you will be successful at everything you go after? Absolutely not. As Ralph Nader said, “Your best teacher is your last mistake.” If you continue to persevere, learning from your failures, you will eventually succeed. Whether it’s running, walking, or crawling…progress is progress. There are a couple of people I am currently working with right now, who I have had to repeatedly remind them that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Take things a little at time. As it is often said, “In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins…not through strength, but through persistence. Persistence and hope are both keys to success.
Even in the darkest rooms, a tiny candle can shed light. The lighthouse that sends its light to warn sailors of dangerous areas or points of navigation, are only lit by a 250-1000 watt light bulb, but can be seen anywhere from 14-19 miles away. The difference? The light reflects off mirrors. Is your ‘light’ reflecting to help others? Are you being an encouragement to those around you?
In Matthew 5:14-16, it reminds us that as Christians, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”” Is your spiritual light reflecting off of the Father? Are you sharing your light to help those lost in darkness? In these dark times, we need to reflect the light, love, and life of Jesus to the world.
Who is your light? Where does it come from? As Christians, John 8:12 tells us, “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”” No matter what you are going through, if you have Jesus in your life and heart, the darkness can never overtake you. Stay focused on Him, and He will bring you through whatever life brings. Let Him be your hope and strength. When you don’t think you can hold on any longer, let Him carry you. He never said life would be easy, nothing good in life ever is, but He did say that He would never leave you.
Some people aren’t sure how to take that first step. They’re afraid or self-conscious about what making such a drastic life change will do to their lifestyle. Can they trust someone they can’t readily see? Some are nervous on what to say to the Lord God Almighty in prayer. He knows your heart. Just have an honest and open conversation with Him, and then let Him do the rest. Read His Words in the Bible, allowing them to help guide and direct your steps. He placed the Bible in the world for a reason. B.I.B.L.E. is sometimes described as “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.” You want an owner’s manual to life? There you go!
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Let Him show you what purpose He has placed you on this earth for. It may not necessarily be what you want, or what you planned, but I promise you that you will be blessed if you trust Him and let Him show you.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Does that sound like someone who intends to destroy you or help you?
I want to encourage you to stay focused on Jesus. Be the stream, not the rock. Pray for endurance. Know the Lord has a plan. And finally, be a reflection of hope to the world. Let them know where your hope, faith, and trust lies, sharing the light and hope with them.
